The Fyr showcases poetry and stories that represent in spirit and aspire to the accomplishments of the great poets. Like the bards of Old English and Middle English alliterative epics like Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the even more fruitful history of verse represented in the works of poets best summarized in Harold Bloom’s great book “The Best Poems of the English Language.” But goes beyond the purely aesthetic. We are looking for verse that reintegrates, not fragments, that is aspirational and cares for and sees the whole not only the self— the forest for the trees as it were.
